Rwanda Post-Genocide Reconciliation

Published on 15.08.2018 at 20:55

The Rwanda Post-Genocide Restoration and Peacebuilding narrative tells a story: in 1994, Rwanda was the site of the most atrocious Genocides in the contemporary human history. In the span of 100 days, about a million people were killed the majority of whom were Tutsi, resulting in a broken and devastated country.

RPF led by president Kagame put an end to Genocide and 24 years of Post-Genocide “Rwandan has reached reconciliation and made remarkable progress in social, cultural and economic development.” This is the official narrative, the only accepted narrative. Any critical reflection on RPF role in crimes committed in different places and times, against different people is considered “Genocide Denial.”

TERRAM PACIS, through social research, human rights advocacy and peace-building, examines the root causes of the 1994 Genocide by exploring both sides of the conflict that led to the 1994 Genocide and its aftermath; the killing of Hutu refugees in DRC 1996-1997 as described in the 2010 UN Mapping Report on DRC. We strive to be on the right side of history; help Rwandans on a path of dialogue.

Our work focuses on the truth, justice and healing for Rwandan who have been denied and robbed their rights to learn about their own history.  How is it possible for someone to move forward when one does not know where she or he comes from? A successful reconciliation, peaceful co-existence, democracy and power sharing in Rwanda, demand that justice is done; in one way or the other, crimes of the past should be acknowledged and punished.
