On October 25-30, the Keep an ageing mind sharp partners had an experience exchange meeting in Utena Education centre, Utena, Lithuania. Participants got acquainted with the partner institution, its functions, monthly schedules, and the local, nationwide, and international projects run by the centre. The participants visited Utena University of Applied Sciences where they learned about programmes which are offered by the university. Later, the participants visited a newly opened STEM centre where they participated in workshops.
To provide an overview of ageism across the education field and other sectors in Utena, participants visited Utena M. Miškiniai public library which fulfils cultural, information, and educational functions for the people of different ages. The library offers and conducts many activities for the adult learners of Third Age University. The participants were also introduced to the educational approaches applied in the non-formal environments in the Utena and Vilnius regions, they got acquainted with small local businesses developed by adult entrepreneurs and had a workshop on pottery in Giedrius Mazuras ceramics studio, where they discussed the importance of collaboration among partners working in different fields.
To emphasise the importance of ICT skills development and ICT tools used in the processes of teaching, business development, and everyday life; the participants talked about a variety of digital tools that Utena Education centre uses and applied them through a workshop organised for participants. To frame the problem about the situation of ageism in the labour market, the participants visited Utena territorial labour centre where they were introduced to employment, unemployment, training and retraining contexts in Utena. |
