Why we focus on youth entrepreneurship

Published on 24.08.2026 at 14:09

Many young people are taught from a young age that going to university and earning a degree will guarantee success. Unfortunately, times have changed. The reality is that many youth graduate only to find themselves unemployed, with no idea what to do next. We often hear people say, "Our economy is cooked." But this is not just a one-country problem; it is the reality for many youth around the world. Where are we going wrong? From childhood, many believe that education is the way for them to change the situations at home.

But graduation often brings a harsh awakening when you struggle to get a job, and you can no longer hide behind the excuse of, "I am still just a child." Depending on your circumstances, you may suddenly be responsible for paying bills, buying food, and supporting yourself and your family too. The problem is that university teaches us how to earn a degree, but not what to do when that degree does not lead to the dream job we were promised. In today's world, that means we must learn to think beyond the traditional path and create opportunities for ourselves. Many young people already possess valuable skills that could help them earn an income, whether through business ideas, climate action, or other creative ventures.

Yet many of these skills were dismissed as impractical while we were growing up, during our studies at university, and as a result, we were never taught how to turn them into sustainable livelihoods. Young people need guidance to become entrepreneurs. Some could learn to start businesses, grow their own food, or use their knowledge to train and inspire others, but many simply do not know where to begin. This is where youth entrepreneurial education plays a vital role. Its bridges the gap between uncertainty and opportunity by equipping young people with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills they need to build sustainable futures.
