The Pathways to Teaching Identities project’s team has produced a handbook for interpersonal skills development in adult education through non-formal learning practices. Its content emphasises the crucial importance of adult educators’ interpersonal skills in the teaching-training-learning process. It considers aspects such as: listening, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills; the ability to guide group discussions; the ability to deal in a gender-sensitive way with adult learners from diverse backgrounds; and the ability to create an interactive and participatory learning environment.
Handbook’s framework is based on national open-ended consultations in the project counties. This research revealed how adult educators understand interpersonal skills and, what is more important, elucidated the kind of training adult educators need to develop their interpersonal skills and at the same time, be able to transfer these skills to their adult learners. The content of the handbook is presented in a practical manner and it can be easily integrated and implemented by the educators. The handbook goal is to strengthen the capacity and confidence of adult educators in a face-to-face training process to ultimately facilitate the adult learners’ empowerment.
This handbook is an integral part of Pathways to Teaching Identities, a project that aims to foster interpersonal skills development among adult educators by applying a competence-based approach to improve the teaching, training, and learning process in adult education in the context of non-formal learning. An Erasmus+ KA2 project that focuses on cooperation among organisations to share the best practices and innovate their tools and methods. The project is implemented in collaboration with: Denizli AFAD (Turkey), Neotalentway S.L. (Spain), Learning centre EVA-93 (Latvia), Vilnius Adult Education Centre (Lithuania); and Jafnréttishús Equality Centre (Iceland). Read the Handbook! |
